Summary/Abstract: The article concerns the presentation of the Latin origins of the structure not + verb + one (nie + czasownik + jedno), its further fate in Polish, and the confirmation, using the example of Marcin Bielski's Kronika, czyli historia świata (the Chronicle, i.e. the history of the world) from 1564 that it has the undeniable meaning 'only' ('tylko'). Arguments confirming the Latin origins of the discussed structure are presented and the time of its occurrence in Polish is described.
