Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the development of Georgian-Russian relations from the 16th to the 18th centuries, taking into account the involvement of other Caucasian peoples. Georgian and Russian policies converged during this period and also encompassed the interests of other Caucasian peoples, including Armenians and Azerbaijanis. Cooperation between Georgia and Russia emerged in 1722, culminating in a military alliance. While this alliance did not yield the desired results, it paved the way for subsequent cooperation with Russia. Georgia's rapprochement with Russia culminated in the signing of the "Treaty of the Protectorate of Russia over Georgia" in Georgievsk in 1783, a culmination of the two states' political rapprochement. Russia, however, reneged on its terms and exploited it to fully subjugate Georgia and the rest of the Caucasus, ending the period of voluntary Georgian-Russian union in the 19th century.
