Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to analyse the views of Michel Onfray, a philosopher representing the sovereignist current in French socio-political thought, on the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. The analysis of his proposed interpretation of the war: its causes, potential consequences and suggested ways out of the conflict, takes into account the French author's specific understanding of the concept of sovereignty - critical of both J.L. Melenchon's left-wing sovereignty and the concept of French independence formulated by the right, identified with the National Unity led by M. Le Pen. The analysis also takes into account Onfray's comparison of the activity of the political elite of the Fifth French Republic in the field of 'eastern' politics, including in particular an assessment of the ideas and political achievements of Charles De Gaulle and the long-standing French president, who came from the Socialist party, Francois Mitterand. In characterising Michel Onfray's thought, the author also attempts to capture the French philosopher and publicist's specific understanding and assessment of the political changes that took place in Europe after the collapse of the Soviet Union, as well as his diagnosis of the parallel political changes in Russia that led to Vladimir Putin's rise to power.
