Summary/Abstract: There is no single generally accepted definition of social entrepreneurship and approaches to this issue are diverse. Comparative studies also show that the genesis, understanding and legal regulation related to social entrepreneurship are different as well. However, although it may be understood differently, depending on cultural, legal and historical contexts, there are certain elements that are considered common. The most frequently mentioned are social purpose as a priority, economic (business) activity and innovation. The aim of this article, apart from explaining the nature of social entrepreneurship, is to try to narrow this issue down, in particular in terms of its current legal status in Poland.
