Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to analyze a judgment of the European Court of Human Rights regarding pre-trial long-term detention, which is a serious problem in Poland, standing out negatively by international standards. It gives rise to severe consequences for people under temporary detention. Accordingly, the work presented focuses on the analysis of this judgment. The result of the considerations is the conclusion that the Kudła v. Poland judgment drew attention to the need for states to provide effective remedies and the need to organize legal systems in a way that guarantees timely processing of cases. For Poland, the judgment signified the need for legislative changes aimed at strengthening the protection of citizens from protracted proceedings.
