Summary/Abstract: The objective of this article is to provide a comparative analysis of Carl Schmitt's theory of guerrilla warfare and that of Roger Trinquier, a French military theorist who pioneered the doctrine of psychological warfare. The author presents the changes in warfare that, according to Schmitt, took place in the 20th century and analyses their effect in the form of the contemporary state's response to the emergence of modern guerrilla movements and terrorist groups, using Roger Trinquier's work Modern Warfare as an example. The article sets out the relationship between the emergence of new methods of warfare, as described by Carl Schmitt, and the totalisation of military operations by contemporary states, as postulated by Roger Trinquier.
