Summary/Abstract: This study examines the post-conflict security environment in the Western Balkans within the framework of the policies and strategies pursued by NATO and the European Union. Drawing on neorealist and neoliberal institutionalist approaches, the roles of NATO and the European Union in the region are analyzed through document analysis, focusing on the cases of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, and North Macedonia. In this context, the impact of hard power–based security interventions and institutional integration and conditionality mechanisms on the transition from conflict to cooperation is assessed within a holistic framework. The finding sindicate that NATO’s military capacity has played a decisive role in terminating conflicts and ensuring immediate security, while the European Union has contributed to the institutionalization of post-conflict peace through its normative power and membership perspective. These findings demonstrate that these two approaches function in a complementary manner.
