Summary/Abstract: Giving false testimony has been criminalized by the Polish legislature in the principal source of domestic criminal law, namely Article 233 of the Criminal Code. The paper aims at characterizing this offence from a jurilinguistic - i.e., interdisciplinary - perspective. Perjury is therefore examined both from the standpoint of criminal law, as an offence undermining the proper functioning of the justice system as a public good protected by law, and from a linguistic perspective, specifically a pragmatic one, as a speech act with distinctive features. Moreover, the offence of giving false testimony may also be committed through omission - by failing to perform a speech act in circumstances where it is legally required. This dimension renders it a particularly compelling example of a linguistic crime of omission from a research perspective.
