Summary/Abstract: The article contributes to the broader debate on the presence of evaluative judgments in scientific discourse across its various subdisciplines. Its aim is to analyse the linguistic means of negative evaluation and their functions in online polemical texts concerning the field of positive psychology. The study examines five popular-science articles and six theoretical scholarly publications serving as supplementary sources. The linguistic devices analysed - operating at the lexical, syntactic, and textual levels - include adjectives and adverbs, nouns, verbs, participles, modal predicates, phraseological units, proverbs, and metaphors, all of which serve axiological purposes. The conclusions address the objects of evaluation, the types of linguistic and stylistic devices employed in evaluative and persuasive criticism, the genre-based rationale for the presence of evaluative markers and stylistic markers of subjectivity in the analysed texts, and the research gaps identified in the course of the study.
