Summary/Abstract: This article is derived from the doctoral research project entitled Estrategia didáctica para la enseñanza y el aprendizaje del Español como Lengua Extranjera (ELE) en una perspectiva intercultural, the goal of which was to propose a new approach to teaching Spanish as a foreign language (SFL) and creating didactic materials. The present paper analyzes construction process of the didactic units developed during the research to encourage the production of materials in this area with an intercultural communicative approach. To achieve this objective, a brief overview was made from the origin of the proposal in the doctoral research to the strategy as a framework for creating the didactic units, which the authors call 'links'. Based on the Colombian context and the influence of interculturality, we decided to focus on the development of one of the links in which the emphasis is placed on the informal economy from the linguistic components of the didactic unit. This article concludes that the collaborative work developed in the EXELE seminar on intercultural communication contributes to the design of didactic and educational materials in the field of Spanish as a foreign language (SFA) from an intercultural perspective that favors approaching culture from the perspective empathy, curiosity, and tolerance. Additionally, this work proposes a basis for replicating and expanding other proposals in this field interested in teaching languages from an intercultural communication perspective.
