Summary/Abstract: Sylvie Germain’s first stories (Le Livre des Nuits, Nuit-d’Ambre, Jours de colère,L’Enfant Méduse) are full of different monsters (ogre, Gorgon, werewolf …). In this articlewe will question what these monsters show us about man and world. For this, we will firstconsider the different forms taken by the monstrosity: miracles, physical or moral defects,human/animal hybridity … However, we will see that the worst monsters do not live faraway. They are hidden inside man, deep in his psyche and his entrails. Finally, we will focuson the monsters of history and also the means to free ourselves from them.
