Summary/Abstract: Drawing on documents held at the Polish Underground Movement Study Trust and the Polish Institute and Sikorski Museum, the author seeks to answer the fol-lowing questions: Were the accusations of desertion levelled against Leonard Zub-Zdanowicz justified? What military rank was he entitled to? Why did judicial proceedings brought against him fail to address the killing of members of the Peo-ple’s Guard (the Borów massacre)? The author concludes that the “freezing” of the legal proceedings against Zub-Zdanowicz in 1948 was a political rather than a substantive decision.
