Summary/Abstract: The objective of this article1 is to show the evolution of Russia’s view of using military history as an ideological tool from the 1990s to mid-2000s. Russia instrumentalised its military history using the example of past authoritarian/totalitarian countries to mobilise the country for war against the enemy, i.e. the West. Russia has always used military history as a tool to raise patriotism among the Russian nation and armed forces. When Putin became president, the Headquarters of the Russian Army gained mental and material support and started to use military history more as a tool to shape public opinion in Russia and abroad (mainly the West).
