Music Education as a transdisciplinary laboratory: beyond notes and equations

Summary/Abstract: The article explores the role of music education as a transdisciplinary space, capable of connecting the arts, sciences and technology in an integrated way, aligned with current demands for developing essential 21st century competencies. Starting from theoretical foundations on transdisciplinarity, creativity and the use of digital technology in education, the paper argues for repositioning music as an innovative area within the curriculum. In this context, an applied example is presented, proposing an approach that combines music with science and information technology, stimulating students’ creativity, critical thinking and collaboration. The analysis highlights the benefits of such an approach on students’ motivation and their capacity to transfer knowledge beyond disciplinary boundaries, but also signals the lack of practical resources and methodological support for teachers. The article suggests extending these practices by developing optional modules and STEAM projects, underlining the contribution of music education to shaping a reflective, creative and adaptable graduate profile.
