Summary/Abstract: The article aims to draw attention to the phenomenon of aspectual triplets in contemporary Bulgarian. While aspectual triplets in other Slavic languages such as Russian, Polish, and Czech have been the subject of growing interest in Slavic studies in recent years, similar research concerning Bulgarian – with a few exceptions – has so far been lacking. The article presents some key views related to the concepts of aspectual pairs and aspectual triplets in Bulgarian and offers an overview of two recent studies on the morphological and semantic characteristics of aspectual triplets in Russian, Polish, and Czech, based on extensive databases of triplets in these languages. Pointing out the need for more in-depth research on Bulgarian, the article outlines several main directions for a future project aimed at developing a similar database of Bulgarian aspectual triplets. The proposed specific steps include formulating criteria for membership in an aspectual triplet, as well as a sample list of potential Bulgarian aspectual triplets and their semantic and aspectual properties. The results of the initial analysis of Bulgarian aspectual triplets are compared with some of the characteristics of aspectual triplets in Russian, Polish, and Czech.
