Summary/Abstract: In the article, a critical consideration of the definition of hybrid war was carried out. Analysis of the content of the existing literature indicates that this issue is considered in three ways. Firstly, that it is an evolved concept of special war, secondly, that this syntagm is consistent, similar to the concepts of low-intensity conflict, fourth-generation war, complex war, asymmetric war, including special war, and thirdly, that it is a new concept of war. The article tries to prove that the first approach is the most acceptable. In addition, the significance of the conceptual-doctrinal definition of hybrid war was also pointed out. Among other things, the practice on the example of the application of Russia's hybrid war methods in the preparation and execution of aggression against Ukraine is considered.
