Summary/Abstract: Adverbs have been one of the constant classes of lexemes described in grammar works from the Bulgarian National Revival to the present day. Over the course of the language’s evolution, the category has undergone changes affecting not only its lexical composition – which has necessitated its reclassification – but also the status of adverbs as categorically invariable words from a morphological perspective. This study focuses on the most authoritative and widely cited grammar works produced throughout this period, with particular attention to the classification models of adverbs presented in them. These classifications are of interest because they are based not only on semantic criteria but also on syntactic ones. By contrast, the morphological criterion remains relatively marginal in differentiating individual groups of adverbs, since they are traditionally regarded as grammatically invariable.
