Summary/Abstract: This paper is an expansion on our previous article “A Rare China Set and the Pink Elephant” (Karo and Parts 2024). Our goal is four-fold: 1) to map for the Estonian reader the academic discussion surrounding the newest explanatory model for recalled experiences of death (RED); 2) to elaborate on Sam Parnia’s concept of the grey zone of death and the related lucid consciousness during RED; 3) to explain why the death-related expanded and lucid sense of self cannot readily be accessed while alive, and 4) to sketch a new research program based upon the insights gained and aimed at better understanding our perceptual filters – from neuropsychological to cultural and social.
