Summary/Abstract: In 1978, Jacob Stockinger introduced and defined the concepts of homotextualityand homotext. A few decades earlier, in 1914, in the posthumously published shortstory “Siciliana” the young Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz created a model homotext structure, pioneering in Polish literature in this form, also due to the open, outing ending. Allof Iwaszkiewicz’s later homotexts recontextualize this model, albeit never againin such a dramatically overt manner. Nonetheless, the extensive short story “MartwaPasieka” (Dead Apiary; 1970) seems to interrupt the homotextual “game of hide andseek” in Iwaszkiewicz’s work, possibly enabling a double reading in the network of secretsymbols for the initiated. The article interprets the various dimensions of Iwaszkiewicz’shomotexts to recognize their – to use Stockinger’s language – deep structure and (selfreferential)transformations on the surface of the text.
