Paratexts of Teatr Osobny, or the History of Miron Białoszewski’s Theatrical Book

Summary/Abstract: The article reconstructs “the history of the book” Teatr Osobny (A Separate Theater)by Miron Białoszewski by analyzing its successive editions as a field of dispute aboutauthorship and the status of a dramatic work. The author traces the role of paratexts,peritexts, and metatexts in shaping the book’s reception, along with the conflict betweenBiałoszewski and Ludwik Hering over the texts’ attribution and the concept of the theater.The study demonstrates how editorial interventions – especially in the 2015 edition –changed the book’s shape and authorship. Kopciński proposes a return to the originalversion of the volume and a parallel digital version that would reveal the multilayeredhistory of the theatrical project.
