Summary/Abstract: The article discusses historical analogies used in public discourse during the siegeof Warsaw. The author analyzes radio broadcasts, the press, and literature of personaldocument. The text highlights various ways of employing analogies, asking about theirfunctions, construction, and what the selected historical points of reference say aboutcontemporary attitudes and national imaginarium. The article presents analogy asa cliché, history as a reservoir of consolations, and the vision of Warsaw’s defense as anepisode in the people’s history of Poland.
