Summary/Abstract: The present study focuses on linguistic negation in two Balkan languages – Modern Bulgarian and Modern Greek. Given the complexity and broad scope of this logico-grammatical phenomenon, only its formal features in both languages have been examined. Specific negative modifiers are discussed with attention to phenomena such as polynegation, quasinegation, and the socalled negation raising. The main aim of the comparison is to illustrate the differences between the morphological and syntactic expression of negative semantics in natural languages.
