Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to present the specific features of Jan Patočka's philosophy of education in light of selected issues of his philosophical thought. Accordingly, education enables the realization of human development potential, while also introducing individuals to the path of self-education.Therefore, education is a response to the meaning and goal of human existence. The objective of education is to change the naive figures of human beings into beings striving to understand themselves and the world around them. This aim requires human openness and the pursuit of truth. In Jan Patočki’s view, education eliminates all “deficits” by forming the “inner person”. The model of educated people is closely related to the realization of the ideal of one’s humanity. For this reason, education must not be considered in an opportunistic manner as mere instrumental means reduced to the realization of “socio-utilitarian” aims. Celem edukacji jest zaś to, by zmieniać naiwne postacie bycia człowieka w bycie poszukujące rozumienia siebie i otaczającego świata.
