Summary/Abstract: Researchers consider the years 2019–2020 a breakthrough moment for the LGBTQ+community in Poland: a time of intensified homophobia and transphobia, and a simultaneousconstitution of the queer collective subject based on dignity. In contemporarymedia statements that oppose the violent actions of the authorities, speakers frequentlydrew historical analogies, with particular emphasis on war and the Holocaust analogies.Citing numerous examples from the contemporary public debate – primarily texts writtenby experts – the author presents the diverse uses of analogies and their character.Furthermore, the article demonstrates that in this case, historical analogies essentiallyserved a translational function: translating something completely unknown into somethingknown; in this case, the history of the Holocaust. The author juxtaposes examplesfrom the public debate with the memoirs of LGBTQ+ people written for a competition, which employ nearly no historical analogies, seeking an original language to describetheir own experiences.
