Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the phenomenon of analogical thinking, especially in the contextof public and political references to historical events, such as the Holocaust. Theauthor examines the functions, risks, and ethical dilemmas associated with historicalanalogies, indicating their prevalence in public debate and the need for their criticalanalysis. Moreover, the text demonstrates various research perspectives – historical,psychoanalytic, narratological – which prove that while people may abuse analogies,they continue to serve a vital role in understanding the present and building a collectiveidentity.
