Summary/Abstract: Birdwatching tourism is a selective form of tourism that has a specific market segment. This form of tourism is part of ecotourism whose goals are the preservation of the environment and biodiversity, the development of socially responsible tourism and the positive impact of tourists on the environment. Birdwatching tourism is a form of tourism in which tourists visit locations with natural bird habitats and is closely related to other selective forms of tourism, e.g. rural tourism, cycling tourism, enogastronomic tourism. The municipality of Nijemci is located in the southeast of the Vukovar-Srijem County in the east of the Republic of Croatia. The bird fauna of the Municipality of Nijemci consists of about 90 species of birds, forest areas and river courses, so it has a natural potential for the development of this type of tourism. Tourist infrastructure (e.g. bird watching center, connection of the Srijem bicycle path, observation equipment) is financed from the European Union funds. The aim of this paper is to analyze the potential of birdwatching tourism in the Municipality of Nijemci through current scientific findings on birdwatching tourism, analysis of tourist resources, existing infrastructure and activities of public administration and institutions. The research for the paper was conducted through a personal interview, and the results of the research indicate the potential and significant predispositions and possibilities for further development of birdwatching tourism in the area of the Municipality of Nijemci.
