Summary/Abstract: Modern political communication could be called “popular political communication”. In search of voters who bypass the communication channels traditionally „reserved” for politics, politicians must adapt the form and content of the message to the new communication spaces. Spaces that are new for politicians but in which potential voters exist and consume information. Politicians therefore communicate content on topics other than politics. This is forced by the nature of these media and the expectations of their recipients. In turn, the increasingly tabloid form of communication, performing entertainment functions, leads to ever more far-reaching simplifications and trivialization of strictly political messages. The author discusses – focusing on Polish politics – a general importance of the phenomenon, its genesis, and essence: which originally non-political channels of communication were adopted by political senders and how the properties of the new communication channels influenced the content and form of messages published.
