Summary/Abstract: This interview with Prof. D.Ps.Sc. Lyubomir St. Georgiev discusses key aspects of developmental psychology in childhood and adolescence, with an emphasis on the interrelationship between activities, self-confidence, and social achievements. In pubertal age, self-confidence is strengthened through desired and supported activities that inspire, mobilize the will, and prevent risky behaviors such as tobacco smoking (supported by empirical data: 33% of girls and 20% of boys aged 13–15 in Bulgaria regularly use tobacco). The lack of self-confidence in the school environment leads to seeking affirmation outside of it, which has negative consequences for health and development. Pedagogical measures are proposed for strengthening self-confidence: encouraging strengths, differentiated accessible activities, fair rewarding, involvement in public initiatives, and humanizing the assessment system (voluntary testing and self-assessment).In a broader context, the role of the family and pre-school education in accumulating social achievements is analyzed – from an early age, children imitate parental models, while impoverished social stimuli (especially in marginalized groups) lead to low levels of development (data: 51.8% of Bulgarians aged 25–64 have not read a book). Measures are proposed for parent education, mandatory inclusion in nurseries/kindergartens, and an emotionally supportive environment in pre-school age. In school, priority is given to activities over the quantitative accumulation of knowledge, along with the need to revise curricula and focus on each student’s individual pace and strengths. In conclusion, it is emphasized that the harmonious combination of social achievements with spiritual and mental development through supportive education is a prerequisite for worthy societal progress.
