Summary/Abstract: According to the Hungarian royal authorities at the beginning of the 16th century, serfs that found safe haven on the royal estate of Feleac, entrusted to the royal city of Cluj, became as free as the Wallachians who were the majority of the inhabitants of the domain. At that time, since the last years of King Matthias Corvinus’ reign, Feleac also housed a Greek-rite archbishopric. The secular and spiritual advantages of the location appear interconnected, yet no preserved coeval document placed them together in relation to the estate.
