Summary/Abstract: Timisoara presents itself as a city of premieres, one of the most important being the introduction of electric street lighting in 1884. The paper answers the question of how people reacted in the 1880s to the innovation that would fundamentally change the cityscape. The aim is to find out more about the discussions on the introduction of electric street lighting, looking at the arguments put forward for and against. It is also about identifying any fears and concerns that usually arise with major changes and innovations. The analysis of the articles from the local newspaper Temesvarer Zeitung from 1881 to 1884 provides information about the events leading to the introduction of electric street lighting, considering the chronology and the monographic description.
