Summary/Abstract: This two-part study focuses on themes of nature, environmental protection, and sustainability. It explores how these issues are represented in the 2012 biology curricula and 2020 National Core Curricula (NAT), in the requirements of the intermediate-level secondary school-leaving examination, and in subject-specific textbooks. The analysis and comparative study were conducted in 2024 using document analysis. The first part of the study presents a textual analysis of the biology curricula and the examination requirements, while the second part centres on the content-focused analysis and comparison of biology textbooks. Given that sustainability and the protection of the environment and nature have been key topics in global discourse for many years – and have been integrated into both national curricula and local pedagogical programs accordingly – our research places particular emphasis on examining how these themes are addressed and represented in biology textbooks.
