Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the results of research on parenting styles. The aim of the research was to investigate the prevalence of parenting styles among mothers and fathers. The styles were measured based on students’ assessments of their parents’ parenting practices during their childhood (evaluating mothers and fathers separately). A total of 392 students participated, and a scale constructed according to Milivojević’s model of parenting styles was used to measure these styles. The results indicate that the optimal (balanced) parenting style is the most prevalent (approximately in half of the cases), while the various undesirable parenting styles are significantly less represented (collectively in about a quarter of the cases). The remaining quarter includes styles that are difficult to identify based on the applied model. This distribution of parenting styles is largely similar when it comes to assessments of both mothers’ and fathers’ styles. The described global distribution was observed based on assessments from both male and female respondents. Such results suggest a fairly high level of alignment between mothers and fathers in their parenting practices. The only notable difference registered was in the assessments regarding the use of criticism and punishment by fathers. Male respondents assessed that criticism and punishment from fathers were more present than female respondents did.
