Summary/Abstract: The diplomatic tour undertaken by the Romanian state delegation led by Nicolae Ceauşescu in June 1971 in some Asian countries held considerable importance, both for Romania’s foreign policy and for international politics. The main focus was the visit to rp China, the visit to the dprk coming second. Archival documents from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bucharest—particularly the reports of Romanian diplomats concerning the international climate and the expectations of various states regarding the outcome of the delegation’s visit—served as the primary sources for this analysis and help to elucidate the broader importance of the event. Accordingly, this study focuses on the preparatory phases of the visit as a means of understanding its diplomatic implications.
