Summary/Abstract: Insurance covering risk accompanying various mountain recreational and sport activities resurfaces from time to time in the debate, which is most often triggered by news on accidents that happen when such activities are pursued, as well as by the significant increase in tourist traffic in the mountains and various "unconventional" and highly risky behaviors of tourists (e.g. so called "winter swimming" in the mountains or participation of children when approaching high mountain picks) resulting in a number of interventions of mountain rescue teams. With this in mind, the paper once again addresses the issue of insurance covering consequences of risk accompanying various activities in the mountains, but in particular it attempts to answer the question if that kind of insurances should be voluntary or mandatory.
