THE POWER OF WORDS: THE ART OF COMMUNICATION IN MAKTAB INSTRUCTION

Summary/Abstract: At the beginning of September, a professional consultation on maktab and maktab instruction was held in Sarajevo. It was an opportunity for experts to address imams, chief imams, and muftis, as well as representatives of the Riyaset and the Religious Affairs Administration responsible for maktab, and to emphasize, through their knowledge, skills, teachings, and recommendations, the significant role of the maktab in the upbringing and maturation of each child into a unique personality. In addition to discussing the fundamental values of akhlaq and ibadah acquired through the maktab, and the role of teachers, imams, and muallims in nurturing spiritually strong and aware members of the community, this year’s focus was also on the inclusion of children with special needs in maktab instruction. Attention was given to how, through the strong power of words and effective communication, the maktab years can be made one of the most important periods in a child’s development.
