Summary/Abstract: In an era of widespread access to information and the rapid development of digital media, students are becoming one of the groups most vulnerable to disinformation and fake news. The aim of this article is to analyse how students cope with false information and discuss the role of media literacy in school practice. The text is based on an analysis of the literature and international reports on media and information education. Based on a literature review and pedagogical practice, it was demonstrated that students possess relatively high technical skills in using digital devices, but often lack a critical approach to media content. Key competencies necessary for critical analysis of media content and good educational practices that can be implemented in schools were identified. Media education implemented in schools, including classes on content interpretation, source verification, and analysis of sender intentions, significantly impacts the development of students' media literacy. Such practices allow students not only to recognize disinformation and fake news but also to understand the mechanisms behind their creation and impact.
