Summary/Abstract: This article explores how the Jewish community organizations responded to the refugee crisis caused by thousands of Ukrainian Jews arriving in Romanian territory in the early 1920s. Using archival records, diplomatic correspondence, periodicals, and internal reports from Jewish communal institutions, it details the role played by the Union of Native Jews and later, the Union of Romanian Jews, in managing this crisis. Special focus is given to Wilhelm Filderman, whose leadership was decisive in coordinating relief efforts, negotiating with Romanian authorities, and working to facilitate emigration. The study also examines the Romanian state’s limited involvement within the broader context of minority politics and humanitarian issues in interwar Romania.
