Summary/Abstract: Based on six documents currently held in Gustav Stresemann’s personal archival collection at the Politisches Archiv in Berlin (Nachlass Stresemann), which are published in the appendix, both in the original German and in Romanian translation, the article discusses several aspects concerning the first stage of his political career. Starting with Professor Otto von Dungern’s trip to the Balkans, undertaken shortly after the outbreak of World War I, and touching upon a meeting, in June 1915, with Alexandru Beldiman, Romania’s envoy and Minister Plenipotentiary in Berlin, the article focuses, in par-ticular, on Stresemann’s involvement in organizing the German propaganda in Romania during the country’s period of neutrality (August 1914 – August 1916). The documents convey an image of Stresemann as a politician who, during the period in question, was steadily advancing and asserting himself within the Reich’s political circles. Stresemann appeared as increasingly able to identify and capitalize on certain topics with a significant public impact and to develop formal and informal networks adapted to his political agenda. The political experience he acquired during the Great War, including with respect to his connections with Romania, contributed to the development of Stresemann’s pragmatic political thought during the subsequent period of the Weimar Republic.
