Summary/Abstract: The attitude of the Great Powers towards the issue of Bolgrad, a dispute that arose after the signing of the Treaty of Paris of 18/30 March 1856, has been examined in specialised studies. The position adopted by the Ottoman Porte towards the issue of Bolgrad, namely the claim of the Russian Empire to retain this city on the grounds that it was the administrative centre of the Bulgarian colonists in southern Bessarabia, has not been examined in Romanian historiography. Several documents identified in the archives of Paris, London and Vienna help us to clarify the attitude of the Ottoman Empire. The Porte had little interest in this issue, being more concerned with obtaining the Danube Delta. Although there were attempts to convince the Porte to support the Russian point of view on the issue of Bolgrad, the Ottoman Empire ultimately supported the approach of Great Britain and Austria. Finally, at the Paris Conference of 1857, the Ottoman Empire received the Danube Delta and Snake Island.
