Contemporary Requirements for the Teacher‘s Competency Profile – Student Opinions and Recommendations

Summary/Abstract: The article presents the results of a study focused on the views of students – future teachers on the competence profile of the modern teacher. The study poses the following research questions: What are the competences that must be developed in the contemporary teacher? What opportunities exist for improving the professional and pedagogical training in order to develop the competence profile of future teachers? The main tasks of the study are: to outline the views of the respondents on the key competences that a modern teacher should possess; to establish the opinions of students on the quality of professional and pedagogical training in a university environment; to summarize the recommendations of the respondents for improving the development of the competence profile of teachers. The research methods used include semi-structured interviews, qualitative analysis and SWOT analysis. The sample includes 15 students. The results show that among the competences considered to be the most important for the contemporary teacher are language literacy, digital competence, personal and social competence, intercultural competence, as well as key professional and pedagogical competences.
