Summary/Abstract: This study examines the impact of stencil graffiti on public spaces in Bucharest during the early 2010s, a period marked by Romania’s economic struggles and austerity measures. Through a field investigation, the research explores how stencil graffiti redefines urban environments, shifting them from regulated spaces to platforms of personal and collective expression. By analyzing approximately 180 unique stencils, the study identifies recurring themes, including social commentary, political critique, and cultural expression. The findings reveal a trend toward visibility and a focus on areas of high public exposure. The research highlights stencil graffiti’s role in reshaping public discourse, providing a visual platform for latent social issues and dissent.
