Summary/Abstract: “A short reign, long consequences”—this is how Jean‑François Kahn characterized the period in which, in one way or another, Napoleon Bonaparte led France, from Republic to Empire. The illustrious French journalist, who founded, among other things, the magazine Marianne (from the title one might think it is a women’s magazine, but it is not), was the president of that year’s edition of the festival Écrivains en Provence, in Fuveau, which had Romania as guest of honor. I was with Varujan Vosganian and Matei Vișniec; we had arrived earlier at the communal table with the writers, somewhere in a kind of inn at the foot of Mount Sainte‑Victoire.
