Summary/Abstract: The study discusses the celebrations of Greece’s main national day (25 March 1821) among the Greeks living in present day Romania, organized in the Hellenic Communities affiliated to the Hellenic Union of Romania, as reflected in the pages of the bilingual periodical, Ελπίς/Speranța (Elpis/Speranța) [Hope]. After a short introduction (1), we present: the Hellenic Union of Romania, its terriorial communities and presidents (2), drafting the portraits of kyrios Savas Tsokaridis (1934-2023), president of the Association of the Hellenic Community in București (3), and kyria Eleni Idu (1941-2022), founding president of the Hellenic Community in Cluj-Napoca (4). Then we turn to: the celebration of the main national day of Greece as reflected in Ελπίς/Speranța (5), eventually insisting on the political agenda of the 25th March 1821 in Romania and Greece, namely on the Hellenic Communities from Romania (6), as well as the Romanian and Greek highest-ranking politicians (7) celebrating the 25th March 1821. We conclude our study with a few final remarks (8), regarding both Romania’s domestic policy of observing the rights of its national minorities (including the Greek minority) and the good example offered by Greece in protecting its Greek diaspora.
