Summary/Abstract: For a long time now both educational authorities as well as numerous early-education specialists have been declaring a change which has supposedly occurred at this stage of educational system and which was to have ensured equalisation of educational opportunities, improved support of learners’ cognitive development and competence related to coping well with the modern culture. Drawing on examples derived from the concepts of new sociology of education, psychological constructivism and the organisational theory, the author shows a seeming character of the said change in three areas: school selection, teaching methods and features of school socialisation. At the first stage of education, school proves invariable, or it even appears to be characterised by: increasing oppressiveness and injustice with regard to pupils from economically and culturally defavoured environments, anti-developmental impact and deepening cultural inadequacy.
