Summary/Abstract: In this article, we focus on the discursive construction strategies of individual and collective ethos in a particular context, relating to the post-earthquake period in Al Haouz, Morocco. The corpus analysed, published in the newspaper Tel quel, concerns the speech given by the Moroccan head of government as his first reaction to the earthquake. The methodology employed uses discourse analysis and rhetorical analysis tools to identify the linguistic techniques used by the speaker to construct his personal image (individual ethos) and thus amalgamating that of the head of government with that of his collaborators (collective ethos). These two aspects of ethos aim, through self-presentation strategies, to strengthen the speaker's credibility and consolidate a sense of unity among Moroccans, particularly in times of crisis.
