Summary/Abstract: In this article, we attempt to examine the populist discourse of Tunisian President Kaïs Saïed, elected in 2019, by showing how he blurs the boundaries between individual and collective ethos. Through a linguistic and rhetorical analysis of his various speeches, we will try to identify the key discursive strategies: use of literary Arabic and a professorial tone, simplification of major political issues, intensive use of emotions, and delegitimisation of intermediary bodies. By merging his voice with that of ‘the people’, the President attempts to build legitimacy based on an alleged embodiment of the collective will, while marginalising the opposing powers.
