Summary/Abstract: This paper offers an analysis of the narrative ethos in Un jour ce sera vide by Hugo Lindenberg, combining theoretical framework, discourse analysis and translation studies. After presenting the main definitions of ethos and its narrative variations, the study emphasizes the distinction between explicit and implicit ethos, extremely important in the construction of the narrator’s image. The textual analysis reveals several forms of ethos: contemplative, as a locus of profound feelings, repressed, struggling with its own identity, or shaped by the opinion of others - illustrated through morphosyntactic, stylistic and lexical readings. Finally, the translation-focused reflection underlines that translating does not consist only in transferring content, but also in preserving a voice: the translation choices and techniques under focus aim at maintaining the coherence of the narrative ethos in the target language, namely Romanian.
