Summary/Abstract: For all of us in my generation—people between forty and fifty‑five—Cornel Ungureanu was not only the encyclopedic and innovative literary critic, not only the professor both admired and feared, but also a warm paternal figure. Jovial and open, yet fortified by the unmistakable urgency of a febrile intellectual quest (he gave you the clear feeling that there was no time to waste), he had the ability to lift you in your own eyes through his direct questions and remarks: “What are you reading these days, what are you writing, what are you thinking, where have you been lately.”
