Summary/Abstract: Dimitrie Suceveanu, the great protopsalt and teacher of Byzantine music, was not a prominent personality of the 19th century just because he had a rich musical activity as a young man, both in the similar churches in the citadel of Iasi, then protopsalt at the Metropolitan Cathedral, as well as an apprentice to the most famous known psaltists of the time in Constantinople and in turn a beloved and very skilled psaltery teacher, but above all because throughout his life he managed to embody the Christian ideal of serving God from early infancy through psalmody, through the countless services and vigils at which he was a co-servant with the hierarchs, priests and deacons of the churches, but also of love and service to his neighbor, being very sensitive and quick to jump to the sufferings and hardships of unfortunate people. He is considered one of the biggest philanthropists of many churches and monasteries in Moldova, but especially of the Saint Spiridon Hospital in Iasi. Although he had a favorable social and material situation, he managed to remain faithful to a life characterized by frugality and modesty, being an exemplary face of authentic Christian living.
