Summary/Abstract: This text aims to compare and analyze the metaphorization of sports victory in Bulgarian and Romanian. The linguistic material has been collected based on current sports events in which national athletes from Bulgaria and Romania have achieved results reflected in the media space. The research task is to trace the processes of conceptualization in both languages, as they are not related, though both are part of the Balkan language area. The approach to the material under consideration is based on cognitive semantics interpreted through the theory of conceptual metaphor by George Lakoff and Mark Johnson in Metaphors We Live By. Conceptual metaphor is informally defined as a way of thinking about one domain through the lens of another domain. The material presented focuses on linguistic representation to determine what similarities and differences are observed in metaphorical units.
